Elham Ahmad, Co-chair of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the North and East Syria, stated that the Damascus government’s announcement of a ceasefire has not translated into a tangible commitment on the ground, as attacks continue and reports of civilian casualties persist across several areas.
"The Damascus government’s announcement of a ceasefire has not translated into any real commitment on the ground," Ahmad said in a statement on X. "What we are witnessing today is a massacre in Kobani and ongoing attacks across different areas of the Jazira region."
"The gap between official rhetoric and the bloody reality continues to widen. Any political process that does not begin with the protection of civilians remains nothing more than a political illusion," she added.
"Silence in the face of these crimes is a moral failure, and the international community bears an ethical responsibility to act," she said.
Despite the recent announcement of a ceasefire between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and factions affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government, reports indicate persistent violations by government-aligned forces and their allied militias in the Hasakah and Kobani countryside.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said on Monday that at least six individuals were killed and six others sustained serious injuries—including four children—following a drone strike targeting a residential property in the village of Kharab Ashk, located in the Kobani countryside. The injured were subsequently transferred to medical facilities for urgent treatment.
The Observatory further documented recurrent clashes and attacks since the evening preceding the ceasefire announcement. It noted that “forces affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government and allied factions targeted the villages of Kharab Ashk and Jalabiya in the Kobani countryside with heavy weaponry on Sunday night, prompting a retaliatory response from the SDF. No casualties have been reported.”
SOHR added that elements of the Syrian Interim Government and their allied militias stormed the village of Tal Ahmar along the Sheikh Tahtani axis in the Kobani countryside, east of Aleppo, in conjunction with artillery shelling and attacks directed at Kurdish-populated villages in the region.
Similarly, villages in the Hasakah countryside were subjected to attacks by drones and various heavy weapons, despite the declared extension of the truce, according to Observatory sources.
In a separate incident in Hasakah, factions affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government launched a targeted assault on the village of Qiri in the Karaki Laki district, north of Hasakah, deploying three suicide drones. The attacks reportedly resulted in material damage only, with no human casualties recorded.
In a particularly grave development, SOHR reported the death of a child and injuries to three other minors in the village of Qasimiya, Kobani countryside, following artillery shelling from positions held by Syrian Interim Government forces and their allied militias in the eastern Aleppo countryside. Observatory sources highlighted that “the bombardment caused widespread panic and fear among residents, amid mounting concerns over indiscriminate targeting of civilian villages, reflecting both the ongoing military escalation and the failure to uphold the terms of the truce.”
