Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), has issued a statement regarding the Coordination Framework’s agreement to nominate Nouri al-Maliki, leader of the Rule of Law Coalition, for the position of Prime Minister of Iraq.
In his statement, President Bafel expressed hope that the move would accelerate the completion of constitutional and legal procedures required to form the new government.
The PUK President's statement reads:
“We welcome the nomination of Nouri al-Maliki by the Coordination Framework for the position of Prime Minister of Iraq. We hope that this step will expedite the completion of the constitutional and legal procedures for forming the new government.
We reaffirm the importance of enhanced cooperation and coordination among political parties to preserve stability and establish a strong, service-oriented government that reflects the current realities of our country and fulfils the aspirations of our citizens.”
