Kurdistan Region VP Praises US Support, Seeks Stronger Ties in Washington Talks

The Vice President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq has expressed his gratitude to the United States for its continued support for the Kurdistan Region and Iraq more broadly during an official visit to Washington.
Sheikh Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, travelled to the United States at the invitation of American officials, where he held a series of meetings with U.S. senators and members of Congress from both the Republican and Democratic parties. He also met with political figures, analysts and experts specialising in Middle Eastern affairs.
During his meetings in Washington, the Vice President conveyed the Kurdistan Region’s appreciation for the ongoing cooperation and support provided by the United States in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. He also thanked the U.S. Congress for its backing of the reform process within the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs, as well as its support for efforts to establish a unified national force to ensure stability and protect the Kurdistan Region.
Sheikh Mustafa underlined the importance of strengthening and sustaining relations between the United States and the Kurdistan Region, highlighting the long-standing partnership between the two sides.
Discussions during the meetings also covered the latest political and security developments in Iraq and the wider region, the continuing threat posed by ISIS, and joint efforts to combat terrorism. Regional developments and their impact on Iraq were examined, alongside the role of the Kurdistan Region in promoting peace and security.
U.S. members of Congress, government officials, and political and security analysts welcomed the Vice President’s visit, expressing their appreciation for the Kurdistan Region and praising the courage, heroism and sacrifices of the Peshmerga forces. They also stressed the importance of maintaining security and stability in the Kurdistan Region.
