The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have reiterated their full commitment to the ceasefire agreement reached with the Damascus government, stating that they will not initiate any military action unless their forces are subjected to attack.
"We affirm our forces’ full commitment to the ceasefire agreement reached with the government in Damascus and reiterate that we will not initiate any military action unless our forces are attacked in the future," the SDF Media Centre said in a statement.
"We further emphasise our openness to political channels, negotiated solutions, and dialogue, and our readiness to advance the implementation of the 18 January agreement in a manner that promotes de-escalation and stability," the statement added.
The SDF and the Syrian government signed an agreement on 18 January establishing a ceasefire and outlining the full integration of the SDF into the Syrian army, following days of intense fighting. However, the ceasefire proved short-lived, collapsing the following day as government forces continued their attacks.
A meeting was held on Monday between the SDF Commander and the Syrian Interim President; however, the talks concluded without any tangible outcomes.
