The Politburo of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has issued a statement expressing deep concern over the unfolding events in West Kurdistan (Rojava) and northern Syria, calling on the international community to act urgently to prevent further violence and protect civilians.
The following is the Politburo's full statement:
We express our profound concern over the events unfolding in West Kurdistan (Rojava) and northern Syria over the past several days. While we stand in solidarity with our people in Rojava, who fought courageously against ISIS terrorists on behalf of the world, we strongly condemn the unacceptable silence in the face of ongoing threats against them and we believe that it is the responsibility of the international community, and in particular the mediators of the Damascus agreement of 10 March 2025, to take an immediate and firm stance against further escalation and the detention of civilians and direct efforts towards peaceful solutions rather than war, which will serve neither side. This is especially urgent in light of recent developments involving the escape and infiltration of ISIS fighters from prisons. Accordingly, we reaffirm our full support for our people and for all efforts that recognise the seriousness of these threats and address this dangerous situation with wisdom and restraint.
