Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, met in Washington with Andrew Donica, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Iran and Iraq at the U.S. Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs.

During the meeting, the Vice President expressed gratitude for the United States’ ongoing support and assistance to the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. He highlighted the crucial and effective role of the global coalition forces in the fight against ISIS in maintaining peace and stability across the region.

Deputy Assistant Secretary Donica stressed that, for the promotion of peace and stability in the region, the United States places importance on upholding freedom and justice across the Middle East. He also reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to continuing and developing relations and bilateral cooperation with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

The discussions also covered recent developments in Iran and Syria, with both sides exchanging views on their potential consequences for regional security and stability.
