Kurdistan VP and U.S. Congressman Reaffirm Importance of Accelerating Peshmerga Reorganisation

Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, met on Tuesday, 20 January 2025, with U.S. Congressman Jim Himes at the U.S. Congress Headquarters in Washington.

The meeting focused on political and security developments in Iraq and the wider region, as well as U.S. relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. Discussions also covered the formation of the new cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the outstanding issues and disagreements between Baghdad and Erbil.

The two sides also addressed the reform and reorganisation of the Peshmerga forces, agreeing on the importance of ensuring the success of the process and accelerating the remaining stages.
