Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, received Andrew Bizley, British Consul General to the Kurdistan Region, on Sunday, 18 January 2026, to discuss a range of issues of mutual interest.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the formation of the new Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the new Iraqi federal government. In this context, Deputy PM Talabani emphasised that the priority of both governments should be to resolve outstanding issues between them and to cooperate on advancing the economic development of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
The situation in Syria was also discussed. Deputy PM Talabani expressed concern over the escalations and tensions between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian government. He stressed that the international community must make serious efforts to calm the situation and take concrete steps to ensure and guarantee Kurdish rights within the framework of an independent and democratic Syria.
