Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, met with Tom Barrack, the United States Special Envoy to Syria, during which he reaffirmed that the Kurdish people in West Kurdistan (North and East Syria) are demanding guarantees for their basic rights.

During the meeting with Barrack, Deputy PM Talabani reminded him that the Kurds in West Kurdistan are demanding guarantees for their basic rights after decades of persecution, deprivation, and denial.

“They have been an influential ally of the United States and the West in defeating the world’s largest terrorist organisation,” Deputy PM Talabani said.

He further emphasised that the United States and the international community need to support the Kurdish people in protecting their rights within the framework of an independent and democratic Syria.
