Garmian protests.
Citizens across the Kurdistan Region have taken to the streets in solidarity with the Kurds of Aleppo, with demonstrations taking place in cities and districts throughout the Region.
Relatives of victims of the Anfal genocide in Garmian also held a demonstration in support of Western Kurdistan (Rojava), urging all parties to unite in backing the Kurdish population. Demonstrators stated, “We, as relatives of Anfal victims, feel this pain more acutely than anyone else when our people are subjected to genocide, because we have endured it ourselves.”
Meanwhile, yesterday in Erbil, citizens held a demonstration, chanting, “Long live the Rojava resistance,” reaffirming their support for the residents of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh. Protesters condemned attacks by armed groups aligned with the Damascus government on civilian institutions and communities.
As part of ongoing solidarity campaigns, another demonstration took place in Sulaymaniyah. Civil society organisations have also called for demonstrations in Duhok and Qaladze, encouraging citizens to participate.
The demonstrations follow a series of attacks by armed groups in Syria that began six days ago on the Kurdish neighbourhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh in Aleppo. These assaults have caused widespread displacement and casualties, leaving the residents in a precarious and dangerous situation.
