The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Press Center announced, on Sunday, 4 January 2025, that a delegation from the SDF leadership is currently meeting with officials from the Damascus government in the Syrian capital, as part of discussions related to the military integration process.
According to a statement by the SDF Press Center, the delegation includes SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi along with members of the General Command, Sozdar Derik and Sîpan Hemo.
Earlier, the SDF Press Center reported that the SDF leadership had begun talks with officials from the Syrian Interim Government on the military integration file following their arrival in the capital.
Brigadier General Kevin J. Lambert, commander of Operation Inherent Resolve, is also attending the meeting between the two sides.
The SDF had previously announced on 29 December 2025 that its military committee’s visit to Damascus had been postponed for technical reasons, confirming at the time that the visit would take place at a later date.
The rescheduling to 4 January reflects the urgency felt by both parties to address the outstanding elements of their unification roadmap. The discussions in Damascus are grounded in the comprehensive agreement signed on 10 March 2025 between SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi and Syrian Interim President Ahmed Sharaa.
Brokered through United States mediation, the agreement was widely described as a historic step towards ending the fragmentation of the country and reintegrating areas under the control of the Autonomous Administration into the framework of the Syrian state.
Under the terms of the accord, implementation measures were to be completed by the end of 2025. With that deadline now having passed, additional momentum has been given to Sunday’s talks.
