President Mam Jalal's Kurdistan Bar Association Card.

January 3 marks Kurdistan Lawyers Day, a date that commemorates the establishment of the Kurdistan Bar Association and honours the role of legal professionals in the Kurdistan Region.

Thirty-three years ago, on 3 January 1993, following the official recognition of the Kurdistan Parliament, a group of Kurdish lawyers founded the Kurdistan Bar Association as a national, professional and civic responsibility. After the establishment of the association, the late President Mam Jalal became the first person to be issued the number one membership card of the Kurdistan Bar Association, reflecting his long-standing support for the rule of law and legal institutions.

Kurdistan Lawyers Day is observed annually on 3 January. The Kurdistan Bar Association currently operates through five branches located in Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Kirkuk, Duhok and Halabja.
