Nearly 10,000 Births Recorded in Sulaymaniyah in 2025

Sulaymaniyah Maternity Hospital.
The Sulaymaniyah Health Directorate has announced that close to 10,000 births were recorded across the governorate during 2025, highlighting the scale of maternity services provided throughout the year.
In a statement issued on Thursday, 1 January 2026, and obtained by PUKMEDIA, the Directorate said a total of 9,848 babies were born at the Sulaymaniyah Maternity Teaching Hospital last year. Of these, 5,096 were boys and 4,752 were girls.
According to the figures, 5,528 births were natural deliveries, while 4,320 were carried out by caesarean section.
The statement also noted that the Sulaymaniyah Maternity Teaching Hospital received 42,723 patients during 2025, with 13,101 of them admitted for treatment.
In addition, the hospital recorded 179 cases of twin births and nine cases of triplet births over the course of the year, reflecting the wide range of maternity cases handled by medical staff.
The Health Directorate praised the efforts of healthcare workers at the hospital, commending their continued dedication to providing maternity and neonatal care despite the growing demand for services.
