Smoke rises in the aftermath of a Saudi Arabian-led coalition air strike on Yemen’s southern port of Mukalla.
Yemen has witnessed a series of political and security developments in recent days, reflecting the continued fragility of the country’s situation amid nearly a decade of conflict.
Officials from Yemen’s internationally recognised government reported heightened political tensions, particularly in southern regions, alongside renewed diplomatic activity involving regional and international actors. These developments come as efforts continue to stabilise the country and prevent a return to widespread fighting.
Regional powers have reiterated their positions on supporting Yemen’s unity and security, while calling for restraint among local factions. Several neighbouring countries said they were closely monitoring the situation, stressing the importance of dialogue and coordination to avoid further escalation.
On the ground, humanitarian conditions remain severe. International organisations have warned that millions of Yemenis continue to face food insecurity, limited access to healthcare, and economic hardship, as the prolonged conflict has damaged infrastructure and disrupted basic services.
The United Nations has renewed calls for all parties to uphold calm, facilitate humanitarian access, and engage constructively in political processes aimed at achieving a lasting settlement. Aid agencies have also urged increased international support to address urgent humanitarian needs.
