The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has reiterated its call for the swift formation of an efficient, service-oriented government that prioritises the interests of the people, a statement by the PUK Political Bureau confirmed.
According the statement, the PUK Political Bureau held a meeting on Tuesday, 23 December 2025, in Dabashan, Sulaymaniyah, under the chairmanship of PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani, during which the Political Bureau conducted an in-depth discussion on the processes to form both the Iraqi federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
With regard to the KRG, the statement said that the Political Bureau underscored the PUK’s insistence on establishing a just, national service government. In this spirit, the PUK affirmed its openness to constructive dialogue.
On the federal track, the statement said that the Political Bureau reiterated its support for a national service government in Baghdad—one that safeguards the constitutional rights of the people and reflects the aspirations of all communities across Iraq.
"This approach stems from the PUK’s strategic assessment that Baghdad constitutes the strategic depth of the Kurdistan Region," the statement emphasised. "To this end, the PUK will continue its engagements, talks and consultations with all parties."
