Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari welcomed by Iraqi officials after he got off the plane in Baghdad.

Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari arrived in Baghdad on Saturday, 20 December 2025, on an official visit to Iraq.

President Zardari was welcomed at Baghdad International Airport by Iraq’s Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Ahmed Fakak al-Badrani, who led the official reception, alongside senior officials from the Iraqi presidency.

The Iraqi Presidency reported in a statement that an official welcoming ceremony is scheduled to take place on 21 December at Baghdad Palace, followed by talks between Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid and President Zardari. Expanded discussions are also planned between the Iraqi and Pakistani delegations.

The statement added that Iraq and Pakistan share longstanding diplomatic relations and have recently sought to broaden cooperation across multiple sectors, as Baghdad continues efforts to strengthen ties with Asian partners and diversify its international partnerships.
