PUK President Congratulates Yazidis on Ezid Day

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), issued a congratulatory message to the Yazidi community on the occasion of Ezid Day, or Îda Êzî, reaffirming the PUK’s commitment to improving living conditions for Yazidis and normalising the situation in Shingal (Sinjar), heart of the Yazidis' land in Iraq.

"I warmly congratulate my Yazidi brothers and sisters on the occasion of Ezid Day and wish them a joyful and prosperous celebration," President Bafel said in a statement.

"The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan will continue to work eagerly to ensure a more comfortable and dignified life for the Yazidis and to normalise the situation in Shingal, so that the proud Yazidi people are no longer victims of conflict and can return safely to their homeland," he added.

Ezid Day, or Îda Êzî, is a major Yazidi festival honoring God (Êzî) and marking the creation of the earth, celebrated around the winter solstice, typically the first Friday on or after 14 December, following three days of compulsory fasting (Rojiyên Êzî) from sunrise to sunset, symbolising the sun's renewal and earth's beginning. It's a joyous occasion with feasting, music, dance, and family gatherings, marking the end of the fast and a turning point in the solar cycle.
