Nick Reiner makes his first court appearance on murder charges.
The son of acclaimed Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner has appeared in a Los Angeles court charged with the murder of his parents, in a case that has shocked the U.S. entertainment industry.
Nick Reiner, 32, was brought before a judge in connection with the deaths of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, who were found stabbed to death at their home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles earlier this month. Prosecutors have charged him with two counts of first-degree murder.
According to court officials, Reiner did not enter a plea during the brief hearing, and his arraignment was postponed until early January. He remains in custody without bail and appeared in court wearing a suicide-prevention smock.
Prosecutors have also filed special allegations related to multiple murders and the use of a deadly weapon. If convicted, Reiner could face life imprisonment, although California currently maintains a moratorium on executions.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive, and the investigation remains ongoing. The Reiner family has not issued a public statement beyond acknowledging their grief.
The case has drawn intense media attention due to Rob Reiner’s prominence as a director and producer, known for films including When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men, and The Princess Bride.
