The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) held a meeting in Erbil on Tuesday to discuss the formation of the new Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

Saadi Ahmed Pire, a member of the PUK Political Bureau, said the meeting is an exsention of a series of talks between the two sides

The resumption of dialogue follows remarks by Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, who stated during a press conference on 23 November 2025 that the PUK is fully prepared to restart negotiations. “We, as the PUK, were engaged in dialogue with our brothers in the KDP until the height of the election campaign, and we are now ready to resume dialogue to form the new regional government cabinet,” he said.

Regarding the formation of the next Iraqi government, Talabani underscored the need for inclusive dialogue among all Iraqi parties to ensure the formation of an effective government capable of delivering quality services to citizens.

The meeting was the second round of talks between the two sides following the sixth-term Iraqi parliamentary elections. Their previous meeting took place on 1 December 2025 in Erbil.
