The Moscow Union of Kurdology has convened a seminar titled “The Kurdish Question in the Face of Civilisational Transformations” as part of the 7th International Conference, “The World Majority and the West amid Geoeconomic and Civilizational Transformations” The event took place with the participation of several specialists and Kurdish academics, focusing on evolving dynamics in the Middle East and their implications for the Kurdish issue.

The wider conference featured 14 academic studies presented by accredited researchers from scientific institutions in both Russia and Kurdistan. The papers examined geo-economic, political and cultural shifts affecting the region, with particular emphasis on Kurdish affairs and the transformation of global power structures.

Speaking during the seminar, Dr Swara Shakali, Secretary of the Union, underscored the importance of addressing the Kurdish question within a modern and scientific framework.

“At a time when the world, the Middle East, and major powers are undergoing continuous change, the need to study the Kurdish question in a contemporary and research-based manner has become increasingly urgent,” he said.

Founded in August of this year, the Moscow Union of Kurdology seeks to unify Kurdish academics and further scholarly work on Kurdish identity, politics, culture and archival research. The organisation also aims to serve as an academic bridge between Russia and Kurdistan, fostering exchange and cooperation in the field of scientific research.

Independent and research-driven, the Union has positioned itself as a platform for rigorous academic engagement with the Kurdish issue, contributing to regional and global discussions at a time of accelerated transformation.
