Trump Awarded First Fifa Peace Prize.
In a dramatic turn of events at the 2026 World Cup draw on Friday, the United States’ President Donald Trump was presented with the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize — a newly created honour from the global football body FIFA.
The ceremony, held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C., saw Gianni Infantino, President of FIFA, present the gold trophy to Trump. Infantino described the Peace Prize as a recognition of “exceptional and extraordinary actions for peace and unity.”
Trump, who has long campaigned for international peace recognition including unsuccessfully seeking the Nobel Peace Prize, accepted the trophy with broad smiles. “I don’t need prizes. I just want to save lives,” he told reporters as he received the honour.
The launch of this peace accolade — and Trump receiving its first edition — marks a significant departure from FIFA’s traditional focus on sport.
Still, for now, Trump stands as the first-ever recipient of FIFA’s Peace Prize — a development sure to be discussed long after the World Cup draw is over.
