President Rashid Discusses Bilateral Relations with Iranian, French Ambassadors

The President of the Republic of Iraq, Dr Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, received the Iranian Ambassador to Iraq, Mohammad Kazem Al-Sadeq, at Baghdad Palace on Tuesday, 2 December 2025.

At the start of the meeting, the Iranian Ambassador offered his condolences to the President on the passing of his brother, the late Shamal Jamal Rashid, praying that God Almighty grant him mercy and bring patience and comfort to his family.

President Rashid underlined the importance of strengthening relations between Iraq and the Islamic Republic of Iran, and of continuing consultations and coordination on issues of mutual concern.

For his part, Ambassador Al-Sadeq conveyed his thanks to the President and reaffirmed his country’s desire to deepen bilateral ties and broaden cooperation across various sectors in the interests of both neighbouring nations.

President Dr Abdullatif Jamal Rashid also received the French Ambassador to Iraq, Patrick Durell, at the Baghdad Palace on Tuesday. At the outset, Ambassador Durell extended his heartfelt condolences to the President on the death of his brother, the late Shamal Jamal Rashid. The President expressed his appreciation for the Ambassador’s kind sentiments and asked him to convey his greetings to President Emmanuel Macron, along with his best wishes for continued progress and prosperity for the friendly people of France.

The meeting also addressed ways to enhance cooperation in multiple fields to further strengthen bilateral relations between Iraq and France.

Regional and international developments were reviewed, as well as mechanisms for continued coordination on matters of shared interest, particularly efforts aimed at achieving stability and reducing tensions in the region. President Rashid expressed his appreciation for France’s supportive position on the Palestinian cause.
