The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has announced the completion of all procedures relating to appeals against the results of the Iraqi parliamentary elections, held on 11 November, with the final results declared on 27 November. The Commission confirmed that the appeals have been forwarded to the judiciary, and a date has been set for submitting the results to the Federal Supreme Court.
According to the official Iraqi News Agency, Imad Jamil, the head of IHEC’s media team stated: “The full election results will be sent to the Federal Supreme Court for ratification once the judiciary has concluded its review of all appeals.”
Jamil explained that “the Commission has finalised all appeals and submitted its recommendations accordingly.” He added that “the matter now rests with the judiciary, which is not bound by the fixed ten-day period, as some appeals involve technical or legal complexities requiring them to be returned to the Commission for clarification or completion of the necessary procedures.”
He further noted: “The judiciary will adhere to the statutory ten-day timeframe after receiving the final appeal from the Commission and completing its procedures.” Jamil also confirmed that “the judiciary continues its work, and several appeals previously submitted to the Commission have had their rejections upheld by the Board of Commissioners.”
The IHEC previously reported that all 872 appeals against the parliamentary election results had been forwarded to the Electoral Judicial Authority.
The Commission explained that once the legal period outlined in Article 20 of the Complaints and Appeals Regulations has expired, the Judicial Authority will officially inform the IHEC that all appeals have been resolved. At that point, the IHEC will submit the final results to the Federal Supreme Court for ratification.
