PUK Iraqi parliament Elections Kirkuk

Aso Mamand, Member of the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and supervisor of the party’s organisations in Kirkuk–Saladin, announced that for every vote the PUK received in Kirkuk, the party will plant a tree, confirming that the PUK’s vote share has risen by 13%.

Speaking during a joint press conference with Kirkuk Governor Rebwar Taha, Mamand said: “We are proud of our people and our voters in Kirkuk, and we assure them that, just as we worked diligently to serve the province in the past, we will continue to do even more in the future.”

He added: “It is true that Kurds lost some votes in these elections, but this was due to certain parties and entities participating despite knowing their votes would be wasted. The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), by voting for the Christian component, also contributed to the loss of Kurdish votes. Despite this, the PUK achieved a 13% increase in votes compared to the previous elections. This proves that Kirkuk and the PUK are inseparable, and we consider ourselves servants of the people of Kirkuk.”

Mamand reiterated that for every vote the PUK received—more than 178,000—the party will plant a tree. He reaffirmed the PUK’s commitment to supporting the Kirkuk administration, distributing housing units, assisting people with disabilities, and standing with the youth.

Iraq’s parliamentary elections were held last week, recording a voter turnout of 55%.

According to Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission's (IHEC) preliminary data, the PUK received 178,629 in Kirkuk, winning four of Kirkuk's seats in the Iraqi parliament.
