Iraqi President adresses the nation ahead of parliamentary elections.
Iraqi President Dr Abdullatif Jamal Rashid delivered a national address on Monday, 10 November 2025, marking the sixth parliamentary elections and calling for broad participation to strengthen Iraq’s democratic process.
President Rashid said the elections represent “a new and important phase” in Iraq’s path toward peace, stability, and development, reaffirming the country’s commitment to constitutional governance and the peaceful transfer of power.
He stressed that wide and active voter participation is essential to correcting past mistakes, addressing shortcomings, and preventing dictatorship or the concentration of power. The President added that respecting the election results and adhering to constitutional procedures would be a strong indication of the Iraqi people’s commitment to coexistence, peace, and freedom.
President Rashid highlighted the sacrifices of security forces and civilians in the fight against terrorism, noting that these sacrifices laid the foundation for today’s democratic environment.
He affirmed that the Presidency has supported all institutions involved in organising the elections and has worked to ensure a fair, transparent, and competitive atmosphere.
President Rashid called on voters to choose their representatives with honesty and responsibility, emphasising the need for a capable Parliament that can enact essential legislation, complete the institutional framework of the state, and form a strong federal government. He said the next government must meet citizens’ expectations for security, social justice, economic development, job opportunities, improved services, and the protection of Iraq’s unity and sovereignty.
He also stressed the importance of maintaining a stable constitutional relationship with the Kurdistan Regional Government and strengthening ties with friendly countries.
He extended his appreciation to the Independent High Electoral Commission for its preparations and praised the efforts of the security forces and supporting institutions in ensuring the success of the electoral process.
“May God protect Iraq and its people,” President Rashid concluded.
