General Voting for Iraqi Parliamentary Elections to Commence Tomorrow

The general voting process for the Iraqi parliamentary elections will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, with polling stations opening at 7:00 am and closing at 6:00 pm.

According to the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), a total of 20,063,733 citizens are eligible to vote in the elections. Voting will be conducted across 8,703 polling centres comprising 39,285 polling stations throughout Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Special voting for security forces, displaced persons, and hospitalised voters was held earlier on Sunday. The IHEC reported that 1,313,980 people were eligible to participate in that phase, which was conducted across 809 special polling centres and 4,501 polling stations.

The upcoming general vote will determine the composition of the new Iraqi parliament and mark another significant step in the country’s democratic process.
