Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid visited the headquarters of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) in Baghdad to review final preparations for the upcoming national elections.
During the visit, the President met with the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, Judge Omar Ahmed Mohammed, and members of the Board, in the presence of the UN Secretary-General’s Representative for Iraq, Mohammed Al-Hassan.
President Rashid emphasised the importance of streamlining voting procedures and ensuring that all necessary measures are in place for a smooth, transparent, and credible electoral process. He reaffirmed that Iraq’s democratic path must continue “with sincere national will to fulfil the aspirations of our people through fair and transparent elections that reflect the true will of the voters.”
The President also urged all Iraqis to participate actively in the election, describing voter turnout as “a vital step in strengthening democracy and consolidating security and stability.”
UN representative Mohammed Al-Hassan welcomed the President’s visit, calling it a reflection of his personal commitment to ensuring free and credible elections. He said, “The eyes of the world will be on Iraq on 11 November — a defining moment in its modern history,” adding that Iraq’s elections are among “the most independent in the Middle East.”
Judge Omar Ahmed Mohammed described the visit as “a great honour” for the Commission, noting that it comes at a critical time that highlights the Presidency’s support for the electoral process. He thanked President Rashid for his continued backing and close follow-up to safeguard the vote’s integrity and transparency.
The judge presented a detailed briefing on the Commission’s operational readiness for election day and its efforts to ensure a secure and accessible environment for voters.
President Rashid also observed a comprehensive simulation of the voting process, including all its stages, and expressed satisfaction with the level of organisation and professionalism demonstrated.
He voiced confidence that these preparations “will lead to free elections that genuinely reflect the aspirations of Iraqis for a better future.”
