The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has issued a strong warning to voters about the dangers of dividing support outside the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) ahead of the upcoming elections. The party’s campaign centre stressed that the creation of fake or affiliated opposition groups would only serve to consolidate the KDP’s hold on power.
In an official statement, the PUK highlighted what it described as the KDP’s long-standing policy of discrimination between regions and citizens, urging voters to support the PUK’s list, number 222, to ensure balance in governance.
The statement read: “Voting is a significant responsibility for all of us. List 222 represents Mam Jalal and the sacrifices of the martyrs. Fragmenting votes outside the KDP and supporting sham opposition groups will only strengthen the KDP. This party has monopolised power, and practices discriminatory policies across citizens, villages, regions, and cities.”
The PUK called on voters to back a party that it says is united in vision and committed to equality. “President Bafel Jalal Talabani leads a party that provides services to all and has taken decisive steps to revitalise the PUK, end the KDP’s monopolistic policies, and restore balance to governance. Support list 222, because the PUK is your power in the Kurdistan Region and in Baghdad,” the statement said.
The PUK also cautioned against new political forces that have emerged in recent years, claiming they have disrupted the balance between the PUK and KDP. “Do not allow your vote to be exploited for the personal gain of others. Encourage your family to vote for the PUK list, number 222, on 11 November 2025,” the statement concluded.
