The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s (PUK) List 222 places strong emphasis on environmental protection and climate action as central pillars of its development strategy. The party’s agenda outlines a comprehensive national policy aimed at safeguarding the environment, promoting renewable energy, and adapting to climate change. Through new legislation, large-scale afforestation projects, and public awareness campaigns, the PUK seeks to build a greener, more sustainable future for the Kurdistan Region and Iraq as a whole.
Key measures include:
1. Environmental Legislation: Enact and coordinate environmental laws at the federal level in line with international standards.
2. Afforestation and Reforestation: Support major national tree-planting and reforestation projects, particularly in desert and semi-arid areas that affect the interior of the Region.
3. Renewable Energy Promotion: Encourage the use of renewable energy sources, including solar and wind power.
4. Support for Renewable Projects: Provide legal and financial assistance for renewable energy initiatives.
5. Budget Allocation: Allocate the necessary funding for environmental and climate change projects within the Iraqi general budget.
6. Environmental Awareness: Raise public awareness about environmental protection and climate change through educational curricula and nationwide campaigns.
