Journalist Hemn Mamand.
Journalist Hemn Mamand has spoken out about the assassination attempts against him: “The same party that assassinated Zardasht Osman now wants to assassinate me. They have sent a group of ten people to Sulaymaniyah to carry out the attack.”
“Six months ago, the Sulaymaniyah security forces warned me to be cautious, as I was under surveillance and there were attempts to assassinate me,” he told a press conference on Wednesday. He added that he had received multiple threats.
Hemn Mamand revealed that the party responsible for assassinating Zardasht Osman had forced him from his native province (Erbil) for six years.
He explained, “There are four main people in this group, three of whom are members of Zerevani and serve in the KDP militia as guards for a KDP official. One of them is motivated by the promise of employment — even though employment is not available for recent university graduates, a terrorist is offered work in exchange for assassinating a journalist.”
At the end of the press conference, Hemn Mamand said, “I have no personal hostility towards anyone. Why are you trying to assassinate us?” He answered his own question, adding, “Because we tell the truth.”
