Iraqi President Receives Turkish Foreign Minister, Reaffirms Commitment to Regional Cooperation

Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid received Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan and his accompanying delegation today at Baghdad Palace, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein.
The meeting discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Iraq and Türkiye across various fields, as well as regional developments and joint efforts to enhance stability and peace in the region.
President Rashid reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to constructive regional engagement, emphasizing that Iraq’s foreign policy is based on openness, partnership, and good neighbourly relations with countries in the region and beyond.
“Our national policy is firmly grounded in respect for sovereignty and the pursuit of shared interests that serve stability and mutual prosperity,” the President stated.
He also underscored the importance of a fair and balanced approach to water sharing, stressing the need to safeguard Iraq’s established rights in the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
“We must enhance water management practices to reduce waste and achieve long-term sustainability,” he added.
For his part, Minister Fidan expressed Türkiye’s keenness to further strengthen bilateral relations with Iraq and to open new horizons for cooperation in various sectors. He reaffirmed Türkiye’s readiness to expand collaboration in ways that serve the mutual interests of both nations and promote closer coordination and understanding.
