PUK 222 Iraqi parliament Elections Iraq Kurdistan Region

Rifaat Abdullah, Vice President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), affirmed that “the PUK represents the best and most deserving choice for the trust of citizens in the upcoming elections,” emphasising that “PUK's List 222 embodies the democratic, national, and patriotic aspirations of the people of Kurdistan.”

His remarks came during two extensive meetings with PUK cadres and members in the Chwarta and Mawat-Gapilon electoral districts in Sulaymaniyah, attended by Latif Nerwayi, head of the PUK’s Media Board.

VP Abdullah highlighted that “the PUK, backed by the strong and legitimate will of our people, continues to fulfil its commitments — a fact that has earned it the lasting trust of the people of Kurdistan.”

He also praised the “constructive role and strong diplomatic standing of PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani,” noting that “his efforts have significantly contributed to bridging the gap between the federal government in Baghdad and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), paving the way for fundamental solutions to the outstanding issues between the two sides.”

The PUK is contesting the 2025 Iraqi parliamentary elections, scheduled for 11 November, across several governorates, presenting its candidates on an independent list numbered 222 in Erbil, Sulaymaniyah (including Halabja), Duhok, Kirkuk, and Diyala. In Nineveh Governorate, the PUK is running as part of the "Nineveh People’s Union Coalition" with number 281, while in Saladin it is fielding one candidate within the "National Masses Coalition" with number 240.

Overall, the PUK is entering the elections with 156 candidates: 36 in Sulaymaniyah, 30 in Erbil, 5 in Duhok, 24 in Kirkuk, 28 in Diyala, 31 in Nineveh within the Nineveh People’s Union Coalition, and one candidate each in Saladin and Baghdad.
