Hama Jan: Voting for List 222 Is a Vote to Achieve Kurdish People's Goals

Hakim Qadir Hama Jan visited the Association of Veteran Peshmergas of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), where he was warmly welcomed by its members. He praised the association’s efforts, describing the Peshmerga as a sacred and honourable name in the history of the Kurdish liberation movement. He also commended the association for its dedicated service to the Peshmerga and their families.

During the meeting, Hama Jan spoke about the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections, stating that voting for the PUK’s List 222 is a vote to defend and uphold the constitutional rights of the Kurdish people and to advance their right to self-determination.

He emphasised that the PUK is the only political force that truly upholds the principle of the right to self-determination—one for which the party has made great sacrifices and offered many martyrs.

Hama Jan added that through political struggle, diplomacy, and serious dialogue, and by working to implement Article 140 of the Iraqi Constitution, the PUK can continue to safeguard Kirkuk and other Kurdish areas.

The PUK is contesting the 2025 Iraqi parliamentary elections, scheduled for 11 November, across several governorates, presenting its candidates on an independent list numbered 222 in Erbil, Sulaymaniyah (including Halabja), Duhok, Kirkuk, and Diyala. In Nineveh Governorate, the PUK is running as part of the "Nineveh People’s Union Coalition" with number 281, while in Saladin it is fielding one candidate within the "National Masses Coalition" with number 240.

Overall, the PUK is entering the elections with 156 candidates: 36 in Sulaymaniyah, 30 in Erbil, 5 in Duhok, 24 in Kirkuk, 28 in Diyala, 31 in Nineveh within the Nineveh People’s Union Coalition, and one candidate each in Saladin and Baghdad.
