Iraqi First Lady Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed visited the Baghdadi Museum, where she toured its galleries accompanied by Basim Mohammed al-Anezi, Director of the Tourism Affairs Department.

During the visit, the First Lady explored the museum’s rich collection, which features dozens of life-sized scenes portraying daily life in Baghdad across different historical eras. The exhibits highlight traditional crafts, local trades, and customs, vividly recreating the atmosphere of old Baghdadi streets and alleys complete with their iconic shanashil architecture.

Describing the Baghdadi Museum as a “bright window” preserving the spirit of Baghdad through the ages, First Lady Ahmed emphasised that it serves as a lasting record dedicated to safeguarding the city’s popular heritage and cultural legacy.

“Museums embody identity, memory and belonging,” she stated. “They play a vital role in fostering awareness and pride in our civilisational values.”

The First Lady commended the efforts undertaken to protect and maintain the museum’s collections, expressing appreciation for the dedication shown in preserving Iraq’s cultural heritage. She also underscored the importance of continued restoration and preservation work to ensure the protection of this significant national landmark.
