Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa's, Head of the Protection Council of the Higher Interests of the PUK, with people with disabilities in Sulaymaniyah.
Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Head of the Protection Council of the Higher Interests of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met with a large gathering of people with disabilities in Sulaymaniyah province, representing seven organisations.
Sheikh Jaafar commended the resilience and determination of people with disabilities.
“You are an important section of society and an example of resistance and self-confidence. You are respected and listened to by Kurdish society,” he said, conveying greetings from PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani.
Sheikh Mustafa described the meeting as “the best and most pleasant” and recalled how people with disabilities were so important and valuable to the late President Mam Jalal and how he was always striving to support them through their organisations and defend their rights.
He reaffirmed the PUK’s commitment to improving the living conditions of people with disabilities.
“The PUK has stood with you through your grief and challenges, and will continue to work to enhance your living conditions. Through our representatives in the Iraqi parliament, we will strive to pass laws that serve your interests,” he said.
Sheikh Mustafa urged the attendees to vote for the PUK’s candidates in List 222, expressing confidence that voters and their families would turn out in large numbers on 11 November.
The PUK is contesting the 2025 Iraqi parliamentary elections, scheduled for 11 November, across several governorates, presenting its candidates on an independent list numbered 222 in Erbil, Sulaymaniyah (including Halabja), Duhok, Kirkuk, and Diyala. In Nineveh Governorate, the PUK is running as part of the "Nineveh People’s Union Coalition" with number 281, while in Saladin it is fielding one candidate within the "National Masses Coalition" with number 240.
Overall, the PUK is entering the elections with 156 candidates: 36 in Sulaymaniyah, 30 in Erbil, 5 in Duhok, 24 in Kirkuk, 28 in Diyala, 31 in Nineveh within the Nineveh People’s Union Coalition, and one candidate each in Saladin and Baghdad.
