PUK President's meetings in Baghdad.
The President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Bafel Jalal Talabani, continues his political and diplomatic efforts aimed at consolidating national dialogue, reinforcing political partnerships, safeguarding stability, and upholding the constitutional rights of both the Kurdistan Region and all Iraqi citizens.
President Bafel stresses that Baghdad represents the strategic focus of the PUK’s policy, and that the interests of citizens across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region are best served through continued national understanding and the resolution of disputes in line with the Constitution and shared responsibility.
Strong Relations in Baghdad
Harem Kamal Agha, candidate No. 1 and Leader of the PUK’s list No. 222 in Erbil constituency, told PUKMEDIA: "President Bafel Jalal Talabani and the PUK have consistently played a proactive role in resolving outstanding issues between the Region and Baghdad. He is the only leader who has leveraged his strong relations in the capital to mediate effectively."
He added: "While other party leaders were engaged in threats and political posturing, President Bafel, following the approach of the late President Mam Jalal, took the initiative to resolve problems. He helped calm tensions and contributed to agreements ensuring employees’ salaries were paid."
Resolving Key Issues
Dr Rekawt Hama Rashid, candidate No. 1 and Leader of the PUK’s list No. 222 in Sulaymaniyah constituency, told PUKMEDIA: "It is clear that President Bafel Jalal Talabani is the only leader with the influence and capacity in Baghdad to address unresolved issues between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government. No other party leader has been able to safeguard employees’ financial rights or stabilise relations between the Region and Baghdad as he has."
The Key to Resolving the Issue Is in Baghdad
Iman Abdulrazzaq, candidate number 1 and Leader of the PUK’s list 222 in the Duhok constituency, told PUKMEDIA: "The resolution of our issues in Baghdad can only be achieved by President Bafel because it is clear to the PUK that the key to solving our problems lies in the capital. In this context, President Bafel has consistently worked to address matters between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad through his strong relationships with Iraqi political parties."
Action Over Slogans
The PUK emphasises practical solutions over rhetoric. The party adheres to a policy of dialogue and constructive engagement, ensuring that every initiative it proposes is implemented effectively and efficiently.
Even during periods of tension between Erbil and Baghdad, President Bafel Jalal Talabani and Qubad Talabani have consistently sought solutions and consensus. Upholding the legacy of the late President Mam Jalal, the PUK maintains that the Region’s challenges should be addressed in Baghdad, rather than abroad. A strong PUK presence in the capital translates directly into greater security and stability for the Kurdistan Region.
