Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Head of the Protection Council of the Higher Interests of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).
Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Head of the Protection Council of the Higher Interests of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), supervised a carnival organised by Aso Hama Rauf for the residents of Qaradagh and Darbandikhan towns of Sulaymaniyah in support of the PUK’s List 222.
The event was attended by Sheikh Ahmed Hama Karim, member of the PUK Political Bureau; Salar Mahmoud, head of the PUK's Garmian Organisation Centre; Jamali Ali Mina, head of the party's electoral campaign in Darbandikhan Electoral District; along with numerous social figures and community representatives.
Sheikh Mustafa praised the courage and resilience of the people of Darbandikhan and Qaradagh, who have always stood firm against oppression and sacrificed many of their sons during the Kurdish struggle for freedom.
He said the people of these regions are fully aware of the proud history of the PUK and its resistance against the former Ba’ath regime, even in the most difficult circumstances, bringing hope to the Kurdish nation.
He added that following the uprising, President Mam Jalal personally devoted special attention to these areas. The PUK, he noted, has since provided essential services including schools, water projects, roads, and health centres, and plans to continue expanding these efforts.
Sheikh Mustafa emphasised that the upcoming elections are not merely a matter for the PUK but a national cause. He said that through their votes, the people of Kurdistan can defend their legitimate rights in Baghdad. He urged voters to support the PUK’s List 222, which comprises competent and experienced candidates dedicated to serving the Kurdish people.
He concluded by calling on citizens—particularly mothers and sisters, whom he described as vital pillars of society—to go to the polls and vote for the PUK’s candidates, expressing confidence that, with faith in God and the nation, victory will be achieved.
In another part of the carnival, Sheikh Ahmad Hama Karim and Jamali Ali Mina also addressed the audience, highlighting the importance of supporting List 222 and reaffirming the PUK’s commitment to serving the people.
The PUK is contesting the 2025 Iraqi parliamentary elections, scheduled for 11 November, across several governorates, presenting its candidates on an independent list numbered 222 in Erbil, Sulaymaniyah (including Halabja), Duhok, Kirkuk, and Diyala. In Nineveh Governorate, the PUK is running as part of the "Nineveh People’s Union Coalition" with number 281, while in Saladin it is fielding one candidate within the "National Masses Coalition" with number 240.
Overall, the PUK is entering the elections with 156 candidates: 36 in Sulaymaniyah, 30 in Erbil, 5 in Duhok, 24 in Kirkuk, 28 in Diyala, 31 in Nineveh within the Nineveh People’s Union Coalition, and one candidate each in Saladin and Baghdad.
