PUK PUK 222 Iraqi parliament Elections Kurdistan Region Iraq

The Higher Monitoring Committee of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) for the Iraqi Parliamentary Elections held a meeting today at the Political Bureau headquarters in Sulaymaniyah.

The meeting was supervised by Sarkawt Zaki, member of the PUK Political Bureau, and attended by Salar Sarhad, member of the PUK Leadership Council.

During the meeting, Zaki expressed optimism about the progress of the election campaign, emphasising that every effort is being made to ensure the success of candidates who will earn the trust of the Kurdish people and serve their legitimate national cause.

He stressed that the Kurdish people should vote for the list that aims to improve living conditions, safeguard the constitutional rights of the Kurdish nation, and continue the legacy of President Mam Jalal, upholding the principles of peace and coexistence.

Zaki further noted that, unlike in previous elections, the active role of the PUK’s election observers demonstrates a more organised campaign process, underpinned by realistic messaging designed to raise voters’ awareness of their political rights.

Participants in the meeting also highlighted the importance of maintaining a calm and stable environment throughout the elections by avoiding hate speech, promoting a culture of democracy, and ensuring the success of a strong civilian force such as President Mam Jalal’s party in both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

The PUK is contesting the 2025 Iraqi parliamentary elections, scheduled for 11 November, across several governorates, presenting its candidates on an independent list numbered 222 in Erbil, Sulaymaniyah (including Halabja), Duhok, Kirkuk, and Diyala. In Nineveh Governorate, the PUK is running as part of the "Nineveh People’s Union Coalition" with number 281, while in Saladin it is fielding one candidate within the "National Masses Coalition" with number 240.

Overall, the PUK is entering the elections with 156 candidates: 36 in Sulaymaniyah, 30 in Erbil, 5 in Duhok, 24 in Kirkuk, 28 in Diyala, 31 in Nineveh within the Nineveh People’s Union Coalition, and one candidate each in Saladin and Baghdad.
