Global oil prices edged higher today after US President Donald Trump stated that India had agreed to stop purchasing Russian oil, prompting a short-term market reaction amid uncertainty about the claim’s implications.

According to Reuters, Brent crude rose by around 1 percent to approximately $62.45 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) gained nearly 0.98 percent, reaching $58.84 per barrel. Traders attributed the increase to Trump’s remarks, which raised expectations of potential shifts in global oil trade patterns.

However, market analysts cautioned that the impact may be limited, given the lack of official confirmation from India and the uncertainty surrounding the feasibility of such a move.

Oil markets are expected to remain volatile in the short term as geopolitical statements and policy shifts continue to influence trader sentiment and global energy dynamics.
