The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) continues to work diligently to serve the citizens of the Kurdistan Region and other Kurdish areas, creating employment opportunities for young people and addressing the needs of all segments of society.

Strength in Baghdad, Strength for the Region

Dr. Rekawt Hama Rashid, candidate number 1 and Leader of PUK List No. 222 in Sulaymaniyah Constituency, told PUKMEDIA: “The late President Mam Jalal often said, ‘The stronger we are in Baghdad, the stronger we will be in the Region. The stronger our presence in Baghdad, the more development and prosperity the Region will witness.’ Following this wise approach, the PUK aims to secure a strong presence in Baghdad to continue his vision.”

He added: “In Baghdad, we will work relentlessly to address financial disputes between the Region and the federal government, and we will seek to establish a comprehensive agreement on the Kurdistan Region’s entitlements within the new federal government’s work programme.”

The Politics of Roses

Dr. Sakar Amin, candidate number 4 on the PUK’s List No. 222 in Kirkuk, told PUKMEDIA: “The PUK continues to implement the ‘politics of roses’ introduced by the late President Mam Jalal in Kirkuk, working to serve all citizens without discrimination.”

She noted: “President Bafel Jalal Talabani holds considerable influence with all political parties in Baghdad. His visits to the capital always yield tangible results that advance agreements benefiting the citizens.”

Dr. Amin added: “The PUK has extensive programmes to support the youth of Kirkuk, providing job opportunities and recognising them as the backbone of our strength.”

President Bafel Jalal Talabani’s Visit to Baghdad

Last Saturday, PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani visited Baghdad, meeting with key federal figures including Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani,  President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, Faiq Zidan, Qais al-Khazali, Nouri al-Maliki, Mohammed al-Halbousi, and leaders of other major political alliances.

During these meetings, the importance of adhering to the oil agreement between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government was stressed, an agreement for which President Bafel Jalal Talabani is the chief architect. Discussions also focused on synchronising the salary distribution schedule for the Region’s employees with the rest of Iraq and ensuring that financial dues and salaries for the people of Kurdistan are not entangled in political disputes.

The meetings further emphasised the necessity of conducting the forthcoming legislative elections in a transparent and fair manner, in order to fulfil the aspirations of all citizens.
