Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received Patrick Durel, the French Ambassador to Iraq, at the Political Bureau headquarters in Erbil.

The meeting, attended by Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, Head of the Relations Bureau, and Shalaw Kosrat Rasul, focused on strengthening the historic ties between the two sides.

On the formation of the new Kurdistan Regional Government, President Bafel emphasised that the PUK has consistently supported the establishment of a strong, fair, and service-oriented administration capable of fulfilling the people’s aspirations and promoting stability rather than division. He noted that the PUK remains committed to these principles, adding that every promise made to the citizens must be reflected in the next government.

Both sides also underlined the importance of holding transparent and fair elections across Iraq. President Bafel reaffirmed that the PUK’s efforts in Baghdad are centred on defending the interests of the Kurdish people, stressing that “the strength of the PUK in Baghdad reinforces the position of the Kurds and safeguards the legitimate rights of our people.”
