The President of the Republic of Iraq, Dr Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, received at the Baghdad Palace General David Petraeus, former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency and former Commander of the Global Coalition Forces in Iraq, along with his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, discussions focused on bilateral relations between Iraq and the United States, as well as regional and international developments. President Rashid emphasised the importance of strengthening security cooperation between the two countries within the framework of their long-term strategic partnership, praising the contribution of the United States and the Global Coalition Forces in supporting Iraq’s fight against terrorism.

He also addressed the country’s stable security situation and the measures undertaken to consolidate these achievements, stressing that stability provides the foundation for prioritising public services, rehabilitating infrastructure, and implementing strategic projects that promote sustainable development.

General Petraeus, in turn, commended the President’s efforts to align the visions of Iraq’s political parties to enhance national stability. He also praised the country’s progress on both security and political fronts and reaffirmed the United States’ ongoing support for Iraq across multiple sectors.
