Both leaders underlined the importance of creating a suitable environment for holding transparent and fair elections. They called on all political parties to conduct their campaigns in a responsible and civilised manner, ensuring that their programs serve national interests and the people’s aspirations.
During the meeting, they also addressed the oil agreement between the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi federal government, stressing the need for both sides to uphold the deal in a way that safeguards citizens’ rights, guarantees the regular payment of salaries, and keeps citizens away from political disputes.
The PUK President arrived in Baghdad on Saturday afternoon to meet Iraqi political leaders and discuss public sector salaries and the implementation of the oil agreement between Erbil and Baghdad.
President Bafel met Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani, President of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council, Faiq Zaidan, and Secretary-General of the Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq movement, Qais al-Khazali.
