The contract for the third water line project between Dukan and Sulaymaniyah has been signed, marking a major infrastructure initiative approved by the Kurdistan Region’s Council of Ministers following the efforts of Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani.

“The Dukan–Sulaymaniyah Water Line 3 Project is a key strategic initiative of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), with a total cost of $423 million. Upon completion, it will address the water shortage in Sulaymaniyah for the next 30 years," Deputy PM Talabani said on his Facebook page.

“I had the pleasure of overseeing the signing of the contract for the project’s implementation today, between the Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism and the contracting company, Habika. We are committed to ensuring the project is completed on schedule and to providing reliable service to the citizens of Sulaymaniyah," he added.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Sasan Awni, Minister of Municipalities and Tourism of the Kurdistan Region, said the project represents a strategic effort by the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) 9th Cabinet to resolve Sulaymaniyah’s chronic water shortages. “The completion of this project will end a long-standing water problem in Sulaymaniyah. It is one of the key projects designed to address the region’s water scarcity,” he stated.

Bakhtiar Tahir, Director of Sulaymaniyah Water and Sewage Directorate, told PUKMEDIA that the project will ensure Sulaymaniyah’s water needs are met for the next 30 years.

He confirmed that the contract, worth $423.79 million, was signed between the Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism and the implementing company.

Tahir added that the initial allocation of $398.48 million was increased following the approval of Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, who authorised an additional $25 million to accelerate implementation.

The Dukan–Sulaymaniyah third water line is expected to significantly enhance water supply infrastructure and provide a sustainable solution to meet the growing demand in the governorate.
