PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani and Iraqi PM Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani.
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), held a high-level meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani in Baghdad.
The delegation included Nizar Amedi, Member of the PUK Political Bureau, and Dr Khalid Shwani, Iraq’s Minister of Justice. The discussions focused on the latest political developments in Iraq and the broader region.
A central topic of the meeting was the implementation of the oil agreement between the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi federal government. Both parties explored avenues to remove obstacles hindering its execution. President Bafel urged the Prime Minister to expedite procedures for salary transfers, ensuring that salary distribution in the Kurdistan Region aligns with the rest of Iraq.
The forthcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections were also discussed, with both leaders stressing the critical importance of conducting transparent, fair, and credible polls.
In a gesture reflecting mutual respect, President Bafel expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Sudani for approving the renaming of Sulaymaniyah International Airport to Jalal Talabani International Airport.
Serving the families of martyrs across the Kurdistan Region and Iraq was another key issue. President Bafel noted: “The Iraqi Prime Minister himself is the son of a martyr, and he has consistently demonstrated exceptional attention to the families of martyrs, which is highly commendable.”
