Jalal Talabani International Airport.
Türkiye has announced the resumption of flights to Jalal Talabani International Airport, a move intended to bolster economic and tourism ties with Iraq.
Yahya Ustun, Head of Communications at Turkish Airlines, stated that flights to Sulaymaniyah will recommence soon, operating seven times a week.
Ustun explained that the initiative aims to strengthen commercial, cultural, and tourism links between Iraq and Türkiye, as well as to lift the restrictions on Jalal Talabani International Airport that have been in place since April 2023.
He said: “As the flag-bearer of Turkish aviation worldwide, we are proud to continue our mission, and in line with this vision, we are pleased to resume our flights to Sulaymaniyah soon.”
He added: “Through our regular weekly flights to Sulaymaniyah, we aim to enhance commercial, cultural, and tourism relations between Iraq and Türkiye.”
The decision to lift the ban follows Sulaymaniyah’s significant role in promoting peace between Türkiye and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party. PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani played a key and influential role in this process, further advancing the bilateral relationship.
