Iraqi PM: President Mam Jalal’s Legacy Continues to Inspire Pursuit of Justice & Freedom

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani on Friday offered his condolences to Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), on the eighth anniversary of the passing of President President Jalal, former Iraqi President and Secretary-general of the PUK.
In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Media Office announced that PM Sudani had sent a message of condolence to Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), marking the occasion.
The statement noted that the Prime Minister recalled President Jalal Talabani’s national role and lifelong struggle, as well as his leadership in confronting dictatorship alongside national forces from all directions, in defence of Iraq’s freedom and the dignity of its people.
According to the statement, PM Sudani stressed that President Mam Jalal’s legacy continues to inspire efforts to uphold justice and freedom, and to reinforce constitutional and legal principles, which he described as the fundamental umbrella for all Iraqis.
Today, 3 October 2025, marks eight years since the passing of President Mam Jalal, Iraq’s first Kurdish and democratically elected President, and Secretary-General of the PUK, who passed away on 3 October 2017 following a period of illness.
