7th Sulaymaniyah International Book Fair Opens as ‘President Mam Jalal Edition’

Kurdistan Sulaymaniyah Iraq President Mam Jalal PUK

The 7th Sulaymaniyah International Book Fair commenced on Friday, 3 October 2025, coinciding with the anniversary of the passing of the late President Mam Jalal. This year’s edition has been dedicated as the President Mam Jalal Edition in honour of his legacy.

The opening ceremony was attended by Iraqi First Lady Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed, Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, Kurdistan Region Minister of Culture & Youth Mohammed Saeed, and Sulaymaniyah Governor Haval Abubakir.

Running until 13 October, the fair hosts more than 200 institutions, publishing houses, and libraries from across the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, neighbouring countries, and further afield.

The Media and Awareness Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) is taking part through the PUK Books Bouquet Printing and Publishing House, presenting more than 5,000 books.

Latif Nerwayi, Head of the PUK Media Board, said: “The Media and Awareness Bureau is proud to participate in the International Book Fair, which is being held in Tasluja, Sulaymaniyah, over 11 days. The opening coincides with the anniversary of the passing of President Mam Jalal, making this edition especially meaningful.”

He added: “The PUK Books Bouquet Printing and Publishing House offers more than 5,000 books, with around one thousand diverse titles. Many of these works focus on the literature and struggle of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s political and national movement, alongside a wide range of literary, historical, and investigative publications.”
