PUK to Field 156 Candidates in November 2025 Iraqi Parliamentary Elections

The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) announced on Thursday, 2 October 2025, the names of candidates approved to stand in the 2025 Iraqi Parliament elections.
In a statement received by PUKMEDIA, the Commission confirmed that the names of 7,768 candidates had been published for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) will contest the elections in the governorates of Erbil, Sulaymaniyah (including Halabja), Duhok, Kirkuk, and Diyala with an independent list, numbered 222. In Nineveh Governorate, the PUK is running as part of the Nineveh People’s Union coalition with list number 281, while in Saladin it is fielding one candidate within the National Masses coalition, list number 240.
In total, the PUK is standing with 156 candidates: 36 in Sulaymaniyah, 30 in Erbil, 5 in Duhok, 24 in Kirkuk, 28 in Diyala, 31 in Nineveh under the coalition, and one candidate each in Saladin and Baghdad.
Altogether, 31 alliances, 38 parties, and 76 individual candidates will participate in the elections—23 in the general vote and 53 representing components.
The Federal Council of Ministers, in a session chaired by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani on 9 April 2025, confirmed 11 November 2025 as the date for the elections to the sixth term of the Iraqi Parliament.
