Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, head of the Protection Council of the Higher Interests of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received a delegation of media professionals and journalists from across Iraq on Sunday, 28 September 2025. The delegation represented the Iraqi Radio and Television Union.

During the meeting, attended by Simko Asaad, advisor to the council, Sheikh Mustafa underscored the vital role of journalists and media professionals in fostering peaceful coexistence among Iraq’s diverse communities. He highlighted how their reporting contributes to promoting a culture of tolerance, dialogue, and harmony.

“No force can undermine the brotherhood between the Kurds and all other communities in Iraq,” he said, recalling that the Kurdish struggle for liberation was never directed against other communities, but against the racist policies of successive Baghdad authorities, which denied Kurds full citizenship rights and political participation.

He further noted that the current period offers an opportunity to overcome past practices of exclusion and marginalisation, stressing that “the PUK is firmly committed to this path.”

Media representatives welcomed Sheikh Mustafa’s support for their professional development and emphasised the importance of his efforts to promote tolerance and coexistence. They also highlighted the need to strengthen media, cultural, and tourism cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and other Iraqi governorates, particularly Basra and the central and southern provinces.
